Abstract
In order to better achieve sustainable development and use of land in coastal areas, protect arable land and safeguard development, this paper quantitatively analyses the spatial evolution characteristics of land reclamation in Lianyungang City based on the land use change data from 2002-2022, using ArcGIS software, and researches its driving factors. The results show that: (1) from 2002-2022, the intensity and motivation of land reclamation in Lianyungang City experienced a weak-strengthening-smooth-weakening process; (2) from 2002-2022, the evolution of spatial pattern of land reclamation in Lianyungang City presented features such as the shift of the centre of gravity to the watersheds and other characteristics, and the source of supplementary arable land presented the characteristics of the shift from the unused land, grasslands and other land types to the water surface of the pits and ponds and the ditches; (3) From 2002 to 2022, Lianyungang city land reclamation landscape pattern evolution presents a trend from fragmentation to centralised scale transformation, but at the same time there is also a problem of reduced landscape diversity. (4) The driving factors of the spatial evolution characteristics of land reclamation in Lianyungang City were analysed using principal component analysis, and the conclusion that economic development is the core driving force and population development is the secondary driving force was drawn. The results of the study can provide a reference for government departments to make decisions on the optimisation of land improvement patterns in coastal areas.
